How to Remove acrylic nails with Rubbing Alcohol?
Rubbing Alcohol is a chemical solvent that every household swear by. Even when you are looking forward to removing your nails, Rubbing Alcohol can come in very handy. Sceptical? Here is the step-by-step process for the same:
- Firstly, by using a Nail filer, remove the top layer of your nail polish.
- Now take a nail clipper/ nail cutter and carefully trim your acrylic nails. Make sure you do not move towards removing your natural nails.
- Further, apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) around the skin of your nails. Do not apply it on the nails, though. The idea here is to keep the skin from getting dried after Rubbing Alcohol usage.
- Now take a glass bowl, fill it with 70% Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol and dip your nails into it. Keep them soaked for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Later remove your fingertips from Isopropyl; the acrylics may have weakened by now.
- Take a cuticle pusher and gently begin to scrape off the acrylics. Go one nail after another; the process may take some time.
- Once done, file and buff your natural nail, wash your hands with a cleanser, and moisturize them. If required, use nail oil as well.
Remove Acrylic Nails with a classic cotton ball and foil method
Cotton Ball and Foil aren’t the most effective though a safe method for removing acrylic nails. Apart from the basic supplies you may need,
Cotton Balls, Acetone, and Food Foil
- Firstly, use a Nail filer and removethe top layer of your nail polish.
- Now take a nail clipper/ nail cutter and carefully trim your acrylic nails. Make sure you do not move towards removing your natural nails.
- Further, apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) around the skin of your nails.
- Now take a glass bowl, fill it with Acetone and dip your fingertips.
OR
- The best way is to dip cotton balls in Acetone and wrap one cotton ball around each nail. Further layer/ secure it with a small foil square to hold in the moisture.
- Now let your nail sit like this for about 30 minutes at least.
- Later after 30 minutes, remove the foil and cotton ball from each nail.
- Now using a cuticle pusher, gently scrape the acrylic from the natural nail.
- End the process by filing and buffing your nails. Later wash your hand and top them with a good moisturizer.
TIP: Remove cotton balls one by one and between scrap acrylics for each. Remember, if you will remove cotton balls all at once, the acrylics after coming in contact with air will again become hard.
Or, instead of Rubbing Alcohol or Acetone, you can also use Hydrogen Peroxide for removing acrylic nails. Even Nail polish remover, too, does a fine job, though success results with the same aren’t assured.
Can I use hand sanitizer instead of Rubbing Alcohol for removing my acrylic nails?
If the idea of using hand sanitizer instead of Rubbing Alcohol for removing acrylic nails is exciting, then drop it. Hand sanitizer (if alcohol-based) has a very less percentage of Alcohol.
It cannot substitute for various tasks that Rubbing Alcohol can do in any means. Thus, instead of wasting time, effort and a bottle of Hand sanitizer, use Rubbing Alcohol only.
Wrapping up…
This was how Rubbing Alcohol could help you in removing your acrylic nails.
Or, if you are not in favour of using Rubbing Alcohol, Acetone, Hydrogen peroxide or other harsh chemicals, then go for peel-off nail polishes.
Also, between every acrylic nail you get done, make sure you give your natural nails some time to breathe in between.
